The Plimptons

I have a gnawing sense that my obsession with the end of the world isn’t peculiar to me but is gradually becoming the epitome of the zeitgeist. Either that or, by focusing on things, you come to see them everywhere.

It is my birthday next week and I have been noticing that lots of others I know people also seem to be having birthdays. I don’t know whether its because I know lots of people who are born in June (because of planetary alignment) or that I just don’t notice that people have birthdays at other times.

To the 13th Note last night to see The Plimptons, a local comedy band, who were launching the video for a single they gave away at the door. All very modern and appropriate our image obsessed era. What is it about YouTube that is so compelling? I don’t know, but clearly it has more of an impact on the youth of today than the worthless currency of mp3.

The band were quite lively and entertaining, if a bit too Poguesy for my taste. The problem with the 13th Note is that it is incredibly thin: there’s only room for about 4 people to stand shoulder to shoulder. And if you’re sitting at the back, like we were, it is virtually impossible to see what is going on. As such, we all found ourselves staring at people’s backs. All of us were staring at backs. Why? It was absurd.
