The Mother who spurned them.

People who argue in favour of communism have obviously never lived in communal flats. The human species is too varied, flighty and reactionary to ever tolerate the levels of agreement necessary for it to succeed. All socialist regimes turn inevitably into dictatorships because otherwise nothing would get done.

Went out to see bands at the Brel last night. I feel obliged not to write the names of the bands because I want to make it slightly difficult for people to find this blog. Not that — I want to repeat this again — I would mind if they did find it. It’s just not something that I was to publicize. Anyhow, I have big plans for this blog and it would be a shame to have to postpone those plans in order to justify what has appeared thus far.

A comedian has start excavating his old teenaged diaries for the purpose of writing a new show for this year’s Edinburgh Festival. He has gone so far as to publish these private musings online to general fascination. I suppose he can write with impunity, what is the worst thing that can happen? Early on I found the problem with keeping diaries when my sister found mine, read it and then gloated about the contents. It was very disturbing and quite undermined my trust in the world. As such, I have never since written a word in a diary that I wouldn’t mind someone else reading. In a way, this is a good thing because it means you never get too self-indulgent or hateful. I remember my Gran telling me about how many of her friends whose husband’s had died found apparently really nasty diaries after their husband’s death. Perhaps they were just being honest.

In the same way that people’s belief in God is often determined by their relationship with their father (strict father’s producing godfearing folk and vice-versa), perhaps people’s political views are determined by their relationship with their mother. Socialists seek the warm embrace of a loving mother-government who gives you adequate pocket money and Libertarians spurning the Mother who spurned them.
