Redesign no.8

As you may have noticed, I recently decided to give this site a new lick of pixels, realigning the focus onto my words. In the process I have excised what I consider the fripperies of the internet twitter, flickr and del.icio.us. I didn’t like the way I felt obliged to periodically update them and hate the way they lingered meaninglessly on the page. Community is a wonderful thing, but it can get a bit noisy out there.

I had toyed with the idea of making the site ugly, but will save that pleasure for another day. For those who fancy something a little ugly and discordant, here’s a picture celebrating (?) blue tongue disease:

Niiiice one Neil. This is so clean. The content coming unambiguously first with a nice, to-the-point colophon digestible at a glance if one wants it is fantastic. Give the user a choice and deliver instant reward. I saw this go horribly wrong recently here: http://www.cosmosart.org/ (actually he’s made things a lot worse since)

The Twitter issue is one I’m glad no longer to be faced with. The problem with such content is that however insignificant you may think it, it accrues importance just by existing — and changing — to a critical point where it ends up being more definitive of your dear self than ‘real’ content. Says the man whose present site is an inefectual window onto his delicious account.

    Keep well.

Hi Barney, thanks for your kind words.

I do periodically check what is happening at your site, if only to see what’s going to disappear next.
