Self Portrait before becoming soft around the edges
Since giving up the gym as a swizz, I have been getting a little soft around the edges. I don’t think I eat enough to get really chubby, but with the wedding coming soon I thought it would be good to do some exercise, so last night after work I cycled 8 miles to East Kilbride.
I really wish I hadn’t. East Kilbride is a new town, full of car parks and shopping centres. It is horrible to cycle around. I found myself in a place called The Olympia Centre, gasping for a bottle of water after choking on the fumes of a thousand family four-doors. A group of feral pre-teenagers high on wotsits and penny chews eyed me as I locked my bike. The Olympia is just another identikit modern shopping centre with a couple of differences. 1) It has a surprisingly decent library inside. 2) There is an ice-skating rink at its heart. Disorientated by all this, I had an identity crisis and left in an explosion of hayfever sneezes.
